What is a DNR?

A DNR is a legal order written either in the hospital or on a legal form received through a doctor.  DNR stands for “Do Not Resuscitate”, respecting the wishes of a patient to NOT undergo CPR or advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) is their heart should stop or they were to stop breathing.  This written request is usually made by the patient or their legal health care power of attorney and gives specific instruction to medical teams taking care of them, so they care respect their wishes.
